The abbot of the Gigina Monastery, Archimandrite Nikanor, personally handed the new Patriarch Daniil a letter of resignation, because " diametrically different positions regarding the place of the BOC in the family of Orthodox churches and regarding its moral assessment of what is happening in Ukraine."
After the end of the liturgy, Patriarch Daniil returned his resignation and announced that the two would strive to work together, reports BNT. The patriarch invited the archimandrite to a meeting, but did not specify when and where it would take place.
His Holiness commented on the outcome thus:
"God gives reason because by conversation when problems arise Saint Apostle Paul says "clarify contradictions, do not let the devil between you", we are human, we can converse and why should the devil hold our souls , when God has given us freedom. That's how we absorb this freedom."
