I will report the circumstances so that we do not go to elections at least until the middle of September. This was stated by President Rumen Radev to journalists.
He did not specify a date when he will hand over the second mandate. The folder should go into the hands of DPS. There is no deadline for the president to deliver it. The Movement has already announced that they will immediately return the folder. According to the Constitution, however, they can detain her for 7 days.
„The probability of not having a regular government is growing every day. I am obliged to comply not only with the handing over of the mandates, but also with when the early elections may be,” said Radev.
„August is not the best month for an election campaign, nor elections until mid-September,", commented the president.
On the topic of his refusal to lead the delegation to the meeting in Washington, Radev said: “There is hardly anyone who has insisted and worked more than me for the modernization of the Bulgarian army, for strengthening the deterrent and defense potential of NATO, but that is precisely why I believe that our government owes an explanation to all citizens about what commitments it is making on their behalf for the war in Ukraine. I do not agree with the commitment for specific financial aid and armaments for Ukraine, nor with the commitment to provide weapons from the BA arsenal before we have received replacement samples, explained Radev.
He added that he does not accept the government turning Bulgaria “into an indefinite donor for the war in Ukraine until final victory, mind you”. With no clarity on what ultimate victory means, what it will cost us in time, money, resources and risk, because the risk to us grows with each passing day of this war. I don't know if they are aware of what it means for Ukraine to fight until victory itself. I have never stood behind inadequate and spineless positions, that's why I refused to go to Washington, emphasized Radev.
