Again, there are pensioners who suffer, they take - a little. The biggest difference is 5 cents. Men's pensions are on average about BGN 247 higher than women's, according to the statistics of the National Social Security Institute according to the latest data.

The average amount of the pension for length of service and age of the representatives of the stronger sex in the country is BGN 1008.14. However, tender halves receive only 761.55 BGN on average. The difference is as much as 25%.

The imbalance is greatest in the Pernik district. There, men receive as much as BGN 492.18 more than women. The difference is mainly due to the higher sums enjoyed by male pensioners in Pernik – an average of BGN 1,262.32 per month, while ladies receive an amount around the national average. In fact, the pensioners in Pernik are also some of the richest in the country. Their money for old age lags behind that of the adults in Sofia by only about twenty leva, reports the Telegraph.

There is a big difference in pensions between the two sexes in Kyustendil as well. There, men earn an average of BGN 406.93 more than women. In Smolyan, there is also a significant difference, as the representatives of the stronger sex are plus BGN 385.46 above what women receive. There is also a sensitive imbalance at sea – with BGN 362.75 in favor of men in Burgas and with BGN 341.74 for those in Varna.

At the other extreme are Razgrad and Targovishte, where the difference between men's and women's pensions is BGN 107.98 and BGN 115.52, respectively. There, however, the amount of money for old age is generally lower.

However, when we compare disability pensions due to general illness, the difference is not so drastic. For men, the amount of this type of payment amounts to BGN 655.65 on average for the country, while for women it is BGN 592.88 or only BGN 62.77 less. So the difference is only about ten percent.

The main reason for the lower pensions of the fairer sex is the lower wages on which they were insured. However, this is hardly the only reason, since according to Eurostat data the pay gap is only 13%, which is approximately the average level in the European Union and the Eurozone.
