The Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov will participate in the informal meeting of the defense ministers of the EU member states, dariknews.bg reported. It will be held today in Brussels, Belgium.
The main focus will be on strengthening the Union's defense preparedness by increasing defense funding and filling defense capability gaps using EU instruments. The ministers will discuss the EU's military support for Ukraine, as well as the possibilities of increasing it by using the proceeds from the frozen Russian assets and proposals under the G-7 loan for Ukraine. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov has been invited to participate.
Operational commitments under the Common Security and Defense Policy and the defense readiness of the Union will also be discussed at the meeting. The challenges in the Red Sea, the EU naval operation “Aspides” and the situation in the Middle East and North Africa region will be among the topics discussed. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as well as representatives from the UN and the European Parliament, are expected to participate in the meeting. In a separate session, the ministers will consider the prospects for the development of the EU Satellite Center.
