The reason for cutting down the trees is to repair the site. The project provides for the reconstruction of the engineering infrastructure. Sewage is being reconstructed, new pipe networks, canal and water supply branches are being built. The electricity distribution network will be renewed. Reconstruction of the trolleybus contact-cable network will also be done, as well as reconstruction of the tram track at the intersection of “Oplchenska“ and "Pirotska“ street.

On July 18, the first stage of the complete reconstruction of “Oplchenska“ Street began. from the intersection with “Slivnitsa“ to Todor Aleksandrov Blvd. The entire renovation is scheduled to be completed by March 2025. At the end of August, the second stage of the renovation began, from "Alexander Stamboliyski" Blvd. to “Slivnitsa” blvd., due to which a temporary organization of traffic was introduced until September 14.
Citizens' discontent began in July, when they gathered at a protest under the slogan "Let's save the trees". In a position from the Capital Municipality, they indicate that if the repair of “Oplchenska“ is not realized, it will fail the completion of the city ring, which is critically important for efficient traffic in Sofia. As a result, the city will continue to suffer from serious traffic jams, especially in the central part of the city, added the Metropolitan Municipality.
