The new British ambassador in Sofia announced his main priorities - 1

A very busy first week in Sofia, as the new British ambassador to Bulgaria!

This week, before presenting my credentials to President Rumen Radev, I had the great pleasure of meeting my talented and experienced team at the embassy.

This is what he wrote on "Facebook" the new British ambassador, Nathaniel Copsey.

Security, prosperity and renewal of relations with Europe are my most important priorities.

I will tell you more about these priorities in the next few weeks, the diplomat indicated.

This week, I will be back in London for a few days to receive detailed instructions from the Prime Minister, the Foreign and Home Secretaries and other cabinet representatives on the UK's priorities and how to achieve them together with the Bulgarian our partners.

Our policy is simple.

A richer and more secure United Kingdom, working hand in hand with a richer and more secure Bulgaria, to build a richer and more secure Europe.'

We remind you that

Nathaniel Copsey is His Majesty's new ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria.

He succeeds Rob Dixon, who will be moving to another role in the diplomatic service.

Copsy previously worked in the UK Foreign Secretary's office as Chief Speechwriter, covering the full range of UK foreign policy issues. Most of his career has focused on Europe, particularly the European Union and Eastern Europe.

In 2015 he joined the UK government to work on EU affairs, including the renegotiation in 2015 and the referendum in 2016. He subsequently worked on Brexit, and after the full-scale invasion of Russia in 2022 .began to work on issues related to Ukraine.

Before joining the Diplomatic Service, Nathaniel Copsey was an academic, later a professor of political science.

He speaks Bulgarian, and his family will join him in Sofia.
