On average, six people fight for one job, according to the data of the Employment Agency. Competition is different in different regions.

It is weaker in cities such as Dobrich, Varna, Burgas and Sofia – there, three or four people fight for one place. On the other side are regions like Targovishte and Gabrovo - 11 people want one job.

In Gabrovo, one of the places with the strongest competition on the labor market, Adrian Hristov has been registered with the labor office for months.

As a Bachelor of "History" and Master of "Local Studies" no pretensions to a high salary.

„They called me when they found a job, but I couldn't always find one that I understood. "I don't think I'm becoming a technician or a person who works with specific numbers," Adrian told BTV.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, there are not many large employers in regions like Gabrovo, but they are opening more and better-paid jobs.

In these regions, the supply is rather related to lower skilled labor, they explain from there.

According to economists, the market in smaller cities could change with the arrival of a large investor.

If that doesn't happen, people like Adrian who can't find work have a choice – to move to another settlement where there is more demand for labor. Retraining is also a way out.

However, Adrian says that he will wait for a job in Gabrovo.

In the capital, with a well-developed labor market, as well as in Varna, Burgas and Dobrich, employers complain of a chronic shortage of employees.
