Glavchev from New York: The most important thing is to ensure a good future for the next generations - 1

The most important is to ensure a good future for the next generations, said acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev at a briefing for Bulgarian media at the UN headquarters in New York, BTA reported. Our country is taking part in the Summit for the Future, which is taking place today and tomorrow.

He explained that during the meeting, which is organized under the auspices of the UN General Assembly, three important documents will be adopted - the Pact for the Future, the Declaration for Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact.

The Pact for the Future was already adopted this morning in New York by all UN member states despite the amendment proposals submitted by the Russian delegation. With 143 votes "for", 7 votes "against" and 15 votes "abstained" it was agreed not to consider proposals for amendments to the text of the Covenant.

The official prime minister explained that it touches on several important topics - peace and security, future generations, digitization and unanimity around the development of artificial intelligence. He drew attention to the fact that currently peace and security are seriously threatened.

The official Prime Minister congratulated the Bulgarian citizens on the occasion of today's Independence Day and stated that freedom, independence and unification are connected, intertwined in each other.

He refused to comment on the political situation in Bulgaria at the moment.

Along with the Prime Minister, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Kondov, also made a statement during the briefing. He stated that the UN is the system in which the most important decisions must be made and the UN Charter must be respected.

The multilingual system must function well, it is our defense against aggression, said Kondov.

The Bulgarian delegation also includes the permanent representative of Bulgaria to the UN in New York, Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, directors and experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Summit for the Future aims to address challenges and gaps in global governance and revitalize the multilateral system with the United Nations at its core.
