Raya Nazaryan: Independence is to name and defend your interests in a complex and conflicting world - 1

Today, independence is the freedom to name and defend your interests in a complex and conflicting world, said the speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan, quoted by BTA.

On the festive day of September 22, the Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan accepted the report of the commander of the ceremonial dawn inspection of the "Tsar Asen I" square. The representative companies of the National Military University “Vasil Levski” and the sergeant's college participated in the ceremonial dawn-check.

The culmination of the celebrations dedicated to 116 years since the declaration of the Independence of Bulgaria began with a demonstration of technical military grips by the cadets in the square in front of Tsarevets and a reading of the Manifesto for Independence.

In his speech, Raya Nazaryan pointed out that we are looking from the historic Tsarevets hill with the self-confidence of an ancient and proud people. “Rejecting the oppression of totalitarianism, today we share the path and dreams of generations of Bulgarians for a dignified and sovereign Bulgaria in the European Union, a union of half a billion free and prosperous people, which, despite stormy times, difficulties and challenges, zealously defends the European achievements of humanism and the well-being of its citizens”, she said in her speech.

„What it is to be independent today - no self-sufficiency, no isolation, no fence to the outside world. Today, independence is the freedom to name and defend one's interests in a complex and conflicting world”, emphasized the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Today, Bulgaria is celebrating in Veliko Tarnovo - in the historical and spiritual capital of Bulgaria, we are all solemnly celebrating Independence, which is an expression of the strength of the Bulgarian spirit, said the mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, Daniel Panov, in his speech.

He emphasized that Independence is a source of national pride, honor and dignity that will never dry up. This was the case as far back as 1908 and a year later, when the proud citizens of Tarnovo celebrated the first year of Independence in an extremely lavish and solemn manner. Eyewitnesses say that the city resembled a fairytale castle. People rejoiced and hugged each other in the streets. It is the same now.

Today, September 22, is the holiday that can be boldly called even more than a national holiday, an all-Bulgarian holiday, rallying and uniting us, the Bulgarians. We prove it with respect for history and heroes, with the preservation of our traditions and customs, said Mayor Daniel Panov in his speech, who greeted the residents and guests of Veliko Tarnovo.

The city welcomed thousands of guests from the country and abroad with events dedicated to the memory of the historical event, guided tours to iconic places, a celebration of the Samovo Bazaar, processions and concerts. The festive day ended with illuminations and a screening of the audio-visual show "Sound and Light".
