I.f. Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Atanas Ilkov and the Chairman of the State Agency "National Security" (DANS) Plamen Tonchev signed a joint order to establish a National Interdepartmental Unit in connection with the holding of early elections for the 51st National Assembly on October 27, 2024.

The purpose of the unit is to guarantee the political rights of citizens to the maximum extent and to ensure a quick and adequate reaction against crimes related to the conduct of the elections.

The interdepartmental unit is headed by Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva. It is attended by prosecutors from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office and representatives of the leaderships of the Ministry of the Interior and the National Security Agency.

The national unit will coordinate the activities of the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of the Interior and the State Security Service from the day of the opening of the pre-election campaign and on the election day itself, with the aim of effective interaction between the institutions. It will complete its work within 30 days after the official announcement by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the final election results. Information will be exchanged with the CEC, with the regional interdepartmental units in the country, analysis and summary of the received data will be carried out.
