Nearly a billion BGN have been spent on elections since 2021.
The early elections in Bulgaria from April 2021 to October 2024 cost taxpayers nearly BGN 950 million, according to official data. This amount includes the costs of all elections held during the period, including local elections and combined presidential and parliamentary votes.
"The data includes the cost of administering the election. These are all the funds we provide for election administration, software upgrades, printing of paper ballots, and election administration fees. They do not include expenses incurred by the parties themselves," explained Lilian Nikiforova, an expert at the Institute for the Development of the Public Environment, NOVA reported.
According to preliminary estimates, the elections scheduled for Sunday will cost the state budget about BGN 116 million. Of this amount, BGN 40 million is earmarked for remuneration of the sectional election commissions, Nikiforova specified.
