There will be no local referendum in Dobrichka municipality on Sunday, bTV reported, referring to information from the local administration. The reason for the cancellation of the poll is that the Municipal Election Commission did not meet and did not appoint the sectional committees.
In this situation, the referendum cannot be held.
The mayor of the municipality Sonia Georgieva addressed the residents of the municipality of Dobrichka with a post on Facebook, in which it is said that their right to vote has been taken away.
„Until the last I believed that they would not succeed, that they would come to their senses, that their conscience would wake up! But apparently there is no conscience here or it has died down under someone else's will! Regardless of the enormous pressure to which I and my team were subjected, we did not stop preparing the referendum. But we entered a kind of “hostage crisis”, skillfully or not so neatly managed by the regional governor and clearly supported by the Central, Regional and Municipal election commissions. We were ready for absolutely everything, despite constantly changing requirements, new conditions and ambiguous communication at all levels. And despite the extremely short deadlines, the municipal administration managed to cope. That's why we won't give up! We continue to be convinced of our rightness, which has been confirmed by leading lawyers, constitutionalists and researchers of direct democracy. The wind brings change and there will be a referendum.”, the mayor wrote on the social network.
On September 4, the municipal council of the municipality of Dobrichka adopted a decision, together with the elections for national representatives, to hold a local referendum, in which the residents of the 68 villages could say whether wind energy parks should be built on their territory.
Complaints from the regional governor about the legality of the Municipal Council's decision followed, court decisions that have not yet ended.
However, the local administration was adamant that this was not an obstacle to conducting the survey. Separate rooms were designated in which to vote.
However, the municipal election commission has not appointed the sectional commissions, so voting cannot be held.
