Our streets are like the Sahara: Protest against illegal parking in the capital - 1

Citizens organized a protest on "Khan Omurtag" St. in the capital opposite the entrance to the sports center of the Military Academy. They are unhappy with the illegal gravel parking lot and the huge amount of traffic it generates.

This was announced by BNT.

"Clouds of dust are visible behind every car, and our streets are like the Sahara,", the disgruntled citizens say.

They insist that the entrance be moved to "Cherkovna" street, and that parking be done on the existing asphalted alley and lot around the sports hall.

"Our children do not deserve to be poisoned while breathing, and our peaceful neighborhood to be terrorized by hundreds of speeding cars every day.

Yesterday house managers from the most affected street "Krali Marko" have met with the acting the mayor of the "Oborishte" district - Mrs. Milena Alexieva regarding the problematic parking lot of the sports center. They have united around the opinion that various illegal constructions have been found in the sports center and that the parking lot is illegal (it was built without permits, there is no permit under Art. 55 of the ZUT, and it is not rented out).

"We all think it is good to have a sports center, but there should be no illegal constructions,", commented the indignant citizens.

District "Oborishte" was referred to them with a report of illegal construction in 2023. In March 2024, an opinion was sent to them from the Ministry of Defense and the DNSK that the district administration is competent in relation to illegal constructions. At the meeting, the mayor informed them that the previous day they had received a letter from DNSK, according to which RDNSK-Sofia is responsible for ascertaining the illegal construction and taking action, and provided us with the attached letter.

"We have asked to be emailed all their relevant correspondence so we can understand exactly what it is about and who has done what so that we can form an opinion. Apparently, there was an on-site inspection by the district administration and they probably found various irregularities when they exchanged subsequent letters. We have been asked to report the dusting, including to RZI, RISW, IAES and SO, so that some preventive action can be taken. Our lawyers are currently preparing it," the protesters explained.
