GERB and PP-DB suspect each other of a double game and they don't trust each other. Boyko Borisov cannot afford to be without Peevski permanently, due to a number of addictions, although for now it seems to have been agreed with him not to participate in the management. This is predicted by political observer and journalist Veselin Stoynev in an interview with BNR.
"The situation is to elect a government or to go to elections, there is no other situation,", he commented.
"Until a new political alternative finally emerges, there cannot be permanent elections. Political formations cannot overcome differences and therefore a new political player must emerge. If an alternative emerges in the next election, it will wipe out part of the current political configuration and melt the big ones. If he doesn't show up, we'll be looking at the same stalemate. Elections become meaningless in the eyes of the voter, because there really is no winner," Stoinev predicts.
He is skeptical that the chairman of the 51st National Assembly will be elected tomorrow:
"We enter the series of previous parliaments when the oldest is elected. As a result of the deep political division and the election of the president, it is seen as the beginning of a constructed governing majority. It seems impossible to me to form such a governing majority without GERB or without PP-DB. Today, PP-DB held consultations with several formations outside GERB and DPS. A while ago, Borisov reaffirmed his formula for a quadruple coalition. And he will not hold talks about the Speaker of the Parliament before the election. He stated that he does not give up on Raya Nazaryan as a candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly, as well as for him to head a possible government. Two parallel processes are running".
According to him, it is difficult to reach a compromise because PP-DB wanted to sign the sanitary control declaration before the election of the chairman, and Borisov wants, first, a chairman, then - signing a coalition agreement.
"Both sides suspect a double game. PP-DB believe that Borisov does not remove Peevski, on the other hand GERB believe that PP-DB are looking for a new majority with MECH, APS and "Vazrazhdane", since "Vazrazhdane" is unacceptable, it will not be administrative, but it will be parliamentary as long as the caretaker government continues, which will stop the election of the Attorney General. The two sides are deeply distrustful, and that must be overcome first. I don't think this will develop within this week," Stoinev said.
He also commented on the new role of Delyan Peevski as a party leader, and not as the person who split the DPS.
