The only thing that Petya Bankova reported in her interrogation about this person is that he is very close to Asen Vasilev. Her testimony and explanations do not contain any specific, unlawful actions by Stavrev. This was commented by lawyer Ludmil Rangelov, defender of the accused Bankova, in connection with the accusations against Lachezar Stavrev, broadcast by BTA.
According to the lawyer, it appears that “unknown what forces, almost certainly political, are trying as much as possible to discredit Asen Vassilev and, if possible, to arrest him and bring charges against him”.
Rangelov specified that Stavrev was named as the driver in Bankova's testimony. According to him, he cannot have the quality of an official named in the indictment.
Rangelov also commented that so far there are no indications that the case against the former director of customs, the former chief secretary Zhivko Kotsev and the others, accused as part of a criminal group, will go to court soon.
