This is the second major achievement of Bulgaria after our admission to the EU. I want to thank all the governments, officials of ministries and agencies who over the years have made enormous efforts to reach this result. Most of all, I want to congratulate the colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the colleagues from DG "Border Police" who managed to deal with illegal migration and this was the reason for the resumption of negotiations on Schengen membership. I should also thank Mrs. Maria Gabriel, with whom we worked in exceptional harmony, as well as the people who work in the permanent representation of Bulgaria in Brussels. Categorically, our acceptance into Schengen does not carry the risk of our country becoming a point of acceptance for migrants, he said. “Similar statements were also made last year, when we were admitted by air and water to Schengen. There is no drama, he explained.
„The only thing we all understood is that the President of the Republic Radev once again violates the Constitution. One case is that he did not invite the DPS-Novo parliamentary group to the consultations before there was a situation with acting Prime Minister Gorica Grancharova, but then a strong woman put him in his place and did not allow him to behave like a man in a military unit and have to issue orders. What has been developing in recent days is yet another gross violation of the Constitution, which is already a relapse for him. The Constitution is imperative – this is the basic law and in Art. 99, Al. 1 is written: “The President after consultations with the parliamentary groups”, i.e. with all, he has no right to choose. This is the first violation," explained Stoyanov. “It doesn't matter who said what, the Constitution is the basic law and he should respect the Constitution and invite everyone. Everyone should go and express their recommendations, he added.
"We see this helplessness, how the Bulgarian Parliament very difficultly elected the Speaker of the National Assembly, we see how people from the same parliamentary group do not speak to each other and stand back to back – how will they form a government? Once again, we are witnessing the gross trampling of the Constitution by President Radev, who is supposed to be the unifier of the nation. He discriminates against more than 300,000 voters who stood behind us”, pointed out Kalin Stoyanov.
He stated that he accepts the elections as fair. “Always after every election, there were videos about violations in polling stations. There are authorities that will carry out the relevant checks. We cannot, on the basis of a few clips, put the elections under a common denominator and say that they are unfair and that someone says that there are phantoms. Our result is legitimate for the country. Time will tell if there are any violations. "Patience," commented the former interior minister.
„Interrogation report is not classified information. When it comes to classified information, there is a certain order in which it must be provided to a certain authority. I don't see a problem with what a witness said in a pre-trial. Everything stated in the interrogation protocol is subject to a full circumstantial examination. I have not seen in the public domain documents with a bar. The less talk about an investigation, the better," explained Stoyanov.
„The Prime Minister categorically cannot request an arrest. I don't see what the drama is that the Prosecutor's Office requested the immunity of a representative of the people. If he had asked me to arrest him, I would not have done it because it is an offence. This is an abuse of power. This is currently under investigation. The fact that he was prime minister does not mean that he can order detention. It's absurd. There is an investigation here, it can be proven that there may be wrongdoing by the police officers along the chain. We saw in the leaked interrogation reports what the police officers wrote, how they persisted, how they were ordered, but the interior minister was also inside. To call them and order them is a complete absurdity. Being prime minister does not give him that right. He committed a crime, a matter of proof by the Prosecutor's Office, explained Kalin Stoyanov.
In his words, if the Prosecutor's Office has taken such actions, it means that they have collected enough evidence and it is possible that further charges will be brought.
