The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) is taking action in the case of the death of the 14-year-old boy who lost his life after falling from the seventh floor of a high-rise building in Pleven on Monday at around 9:00 p.m. after using a vape. This was announced to BTA by the CPC.

The CPC is in constant contact with the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Interior regarding all the details of the product that led to the fatal incident.

Earlier today, Pleven District Prosecutor Vladimir Nikolov announced that the vape contains hexahydrocannabinol, which became known from the preliminary data of the complex physical and chemical expertise. Hexahydrocannabinol is a cannabinoid found in the drug hemp or marijuana, the prosecutor explained.

The CPC warns that quite often, especially people under 18 years of age, find ways to obtain electronic smoking devices in unregulated ways outside retail outlets and online retailers. In such cases, the origin and composition of the substances are completely unclear, the Commission added.

In 2025 The Ministry of Interior and the CPC will continue to work on limiting the possibility of unauthorized access to such products, the Commission assures.

The CPC takes samples, assigning electronic cigarettes and liquids for them for testing to establish the volume of the container, a quantitative analysis is performed for nicotine content, relative density, composition of the liquid and substances contained in the product, in order to establish their compliance with the requirements of the Tobacco, Tobacco and Related Products Act.

When non-compliance of electronic cigarettes offered for sale with the requirements of the law is established, the Chairman of the CPC issues an order with mandatory prescriptions to manufacturers, importers and traders to withdraw the products, regardless of whether they are offered in retail outlets or online, the CPC specifies.
