I am entering the race for chairman to bring meaning and politics back to the BSP. Some will say - enough. And indeed, for me personally, it is easier not to participate in the leadership race, because I have more to lose than to win. But precisely because I owe my political achievements to the BSP, I have a debt to it. I have no painful ambitions and no need to prove to myself that I can. This was said at a press conference by the former BSP leader and former Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, who announced his candidacy for party chairman, a reporter for Novini.bg reported.
I showed a lot of tolerance towards the new old leadership, understanding many things. This is actually the old leadership. I know that the situation is complicated, but I want to say that with cosmetic changes and rearrangements, the left has no chance. In this way, we cannot achieve anything new and gain the trust of those we have repelled, Stanishev said.
I understand the need for stable governance, but the priorities stated during the election campaign have not been implemented. The political motives for why we are in power are not clear. The impression is created that everything is to install certain people, and there is no point. This is a serious political mistake, because there were other ways to support a government, to set conditions. If you come to power in a crooked way, there is no way to leave with dignity and trust. But that is in the past. Congress must correct the mistakes and weaknesses. Congress must set very clear political goals and requirements. BSP must set its governance priorities. We need a comprehensive new approach, a systematic one, that will begin to turn around this dramatic picture we live in, the candidate for BSP leader pointed out.
For me, it is unacceptable for the BSP to be anyone's pawn, emphasized Sergey Stanishev. We must become a medium-sized party from a small one and then pursue great successes. This will require a lot of time and effort. We must work together, there is no such magician who can single-handedly pull the BSP out of the swamp it is in. It is very important for the BSP to realize where it is, to chart its path, in order to become an unavoidable factor again, the socialist noted.
