The Bezmer Air Base near Yambol opens its doors to visitors today from 9:30 to 13:00. The occasion is the International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics - April 12, the press center of the Ministry of Defense announced, BTA reported.
Visitors will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Su-25 attack aircraft, small arms, flight equipment, special and aircraft maintenance equipment. The air base museum will also be open to friends of aviation.
In 1974, the second Bulgarian cosmonaut Alexander Alexandrov joined the ranks of the Bezmer Air Base. He served as a pilot in the air base until 1977, when he was selected as a cosmonaut in the second group of the “Intercosmos“ program.
The Aviation Museum near Plovdiv (a branch of the National Museum of Military History) also celebrates the International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics and the anniversary of the flight of the first Bulgarian cosmonaut with various events from April 9 to 12.
