The Peevski-Borisov duo is slowly and methodically trying to establish a two-headed dictatorship in Bulgaria and destroy any chance for a normal rule of law. Their greed for power is boundless and one head will probably eat the other in the end, but after they have tried to eat everything else.
Since this duo went unchecked, Bulgaria has fallen 11 places in terms of media freedom according to the World Press Freedom Index of “Reporters Without Borders”. From 59th place last year, this year our country is already ranked 70th.
Control over information has always tempted authoritarian regimes. They know very well that if they control the information networks, they control society. Now we are seeing exactly this model in action – They are taking over not only the media, the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Interior, but they are also reaching out to the State Security Agency, an old dream of Peevski.
In addition to the ability to create intrigues and fabricate investigations against inconvenient individuals, the State Security Agency is particularly important for eavesdropping on the opposition and citizens.
Now, in yet another attempt to control the institutions, the two-headed dictatorship wants to install Denyo Denev as the head of the State Security Agency, a man who proved his 100% loyalty to Peevski-Borisov by fabricating the report against machine voting and actually eliminating machine voting for the local elections in 2023. It's not that the current head of SANS is not compromised, but he is not 100% a man of the duo.
All free Bulgarians must be more active and have more effective common actions in order to prevent these two from establishing a total two-headed dictatorship in Bulgaria:
1. We from Continuing the Change will shed light on every action of the duo and will initiate a vote of no confidence in a month. We will continue to expose the crimes with the gas storage facility in Chiren, smuggling, highways at double prices. No matter how many fabricated accusations their prosecutor's office brings against us, we will not bow to them and will even become even more ambitious.
2. Free journalists must maintain their independence as much as possible, and we should all support journalists who have the courage to stand up for the truth.
3. Citizens must realize that if they remain passive, the two-headed dictatorship will settle permanently. That is why the civil organization “Justice for All” is organizing a protest on May 9 (Friday) at 6:00 PM at the “People’s Assembly” Square. Come to this protest, don’t stay home. While citizens are resting, the two-headed dictatorship is not sleeping and is conquering institution after institution.
None of these steps alone is enough, but if we join forces, we can all succeed together. The two-headed dictatorship must know that we will not allow it to steal our future.
