The toxicological examination of the death of Yavor Georgiev has been released. There was a significant concentration of cocaine in his blood, NOVA learned from its sources from the investigation. The experts also found a minimal amount of alcohol, which in combination with the drug caused heart failure. The analysis indicates the presence of 2.5 μg/mL at a “normal“ concentration range for cocaine of 0.1 - 0.3 μg/mL, Nova TV reported.
The experts also found that the detected methylecgonidine, which is obtained when smoking cocaine, is a relatively small amount compared to other metabolites. According to the experts, the resulting common metabolite is characterized by high cardiotoxicity. And this, together with the use of alcohol, despite the low concentration of up to 0.7 g/L, leads to an increase in the toxic effects of cocaine.
The expert examination also indicates that the drug was taken relatively soon before death, which can lead to the so-called “cocaine psychosis” - a condition in which an acute psychotic crisis is observed, characterized by a temporary loss of contact with the surrounding environment and reality, paranoia, hallucinations and delusions.
In conclusion, the experts claim that the data show that the 36-year-old man used cocaine on average 2 to 4 hours before death. Evidence of acute exogenous cocaine intoxication has been found, which alone can lead to death.
According to the triple autopsy, the immediate cause of death is acute cardiovascular and respiratory failure, which developed as a result of brain hemorrhage. All injuries found on the body are superficial and limited in size, and would not have led to the development of brain edema and death. There is no evidence of traumatic injuries to the neck area, which leads to the conclusion that the cause of death was not compression of the neck.
Today, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov arrived in Varna for meetings of the Regional Directorate. According to him, in the tragic case, the police exceeded their rights. He insisted that a second autopsy be performed on the victim's remains, so as to dispel any doubts about concealing the truth.
A series of dismissals in the Varna Regional Department of Internal Affairs was caused by the tragic case of Yavor Georgiev. The 36-year-old man died after being detained and taken by a patrol car to a psychiatric hospital in the seaside capital. The two police officers who carried out the arrest, the head of the Second Regional Police Department Chavdar Nankov, were suspended from duty, and the Minister of the Interior also suspended the director of the Regional Directorate, Senior Commissioner Andrey Angelov.
We recall that rapid tests in the victim's body found the presence of cocaine and a substance that is part of marijuana. According to the autopsy, the cause of death was acute cardiovascular and respiratory failure, which developed as a result of brain edema.
At the same time, I.F. The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria, Borislav Sarafov, requested that a new, additional, comprehensive forensic medical examination be commissioned in the pre-trial proceedings.
