GERB leader Boyko Borisov went to Germany to meet with the management of the arms concern “Rheinmetall“ and to thank that the company will invest in Bulgaria. This became clear from a video posted on Facebook by a politician.
The chairman of the board of directors of the German concern Armin Paperger explained that the Bulgarian government and the German company will invest over 1 billion euros in two factories – for artillery shells and gunpowder.
“I am very happy to greet as our guest the chairman of the GERB party and one of the important people in Bulgaria - Boyko Borisov. Bulgaria is an extremely important country for “Rheinmetall”. The connections and relationships we have are thanks to our extremely successful personal ones. “Rheinmetall“ will build at least two factories in Bulgaria - one of which will be for artillery shells. Even more important, however, is our joint venture for gunpowder, which will be built”, said Armin Paperger.
According to him, these factories will produce a large part of the ammunition that NATO troops will use in the coming years. This, in turn, will contribute to the positioning of our country as a strategic partner of the Alliance.
“Viele Danke. Thank you for the teams that you sent regularly during these months - from March until now. In the next 3 weeks, the two contracts for a joint venture should be prepared. The gunpowder factory will be as large as two German factories in Europe. This is the most scarce commodity at the moment and I am extremely grateful that they chose the Vazovsky factories for this project“, commented Borisov.
According to Borisov, the plant for the shells, which are “NATO caliber“ will be extremely important for the Bulgarian army, not only for Europe. The goal is to produce 100 thousand units.
The GERB leader also said that the European Commission is familiar with the investment projects. The contracts are about to be ratified in parliament. Borisov announced that they have also discussed the construction of subsidiaries for the production of drones in our country with the German concern.
Earlier today, President Rumen Radev said that he had found the key investor: “At the beginning of the year, I managed to convince a strategic investor like “Rheinmetall“, which the government can only dream of, to visit Bulgaria and invest here. "Today they are in Germany for this investment that I have secured and at the same time they are saying that I am sabotaging them," the head of state commented.
