Illegal camping with tents, sunbeds and even a makeshift barbecue in the caves of the national reserve “Yailata”. This was signaled to us by viewer Dian Miltiadev. It turned out that this is not the first attempt to appropriate parts of the protected territory, but the institutions cannot cope with the situation.
The man is an amateur photographer and has been visiting the reserve for years, clarifies Nova TV. In recent days, he was trying to capture beautiful shots in the wild peony's natural habitat when he came across the unpleasant sight.
„I have seen in the caves another time that there are remains of bivouacs, but in such a quantity – tents, lounge chairs, chairs, tables – no”, he clarified.
The man is most outraged by the waste.
„Firewood, boxes for burning, mineral water tubes. "There is everything," said Dian, who, however, did not alert the institutions about his find.
„They will just start passing the ball to each other. I have spoken with the mayor of “St. Nicholas”, who has undertaken to listen to environmentalists. I realized that they don't work and I turned to you, explained Dian.
The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Varna stated that this is not their responsibility.
„Another institution is responsible for this area. Rather, you should turn to the archaeological museum,”, says Ercan Ebatin, director of RISW – Varna.
In reality, the archaeological sites in the reserve are given to the management of the municipality of Kavarna through the local museum. The signals to both the ecoinspection and the municipality are many, but the area of the reserve extends over hundreds of acres of land and can hardly be protected.
„It is practically even surprising how these people get there and occupy such places, where a normal person can hardly get to,” commented the mayor of the municipality, Elena Baltajieva.
The biggest problem is that so far no arrests have been made. The mayor is committed to cleaning the caves, regardless of whether they are part of the archaeological reserve or the protected habitats.
