The former BNB building in the center of Plovdiv has been closed for over 5 years. For a long time, the public debated what its fate would be, until at the beginning of the current year, an international contest "Treasury of Ideas" was announced. The conclusion is that most likely the new function of the building will be a museum. The other option is to move part of the Archaeological Museum to it, and the third – to be turned into a cultural center with study rooms and halls for children. Although the final choice is yet to be made, from now on the idea of a Museum of Plovdiv is emerging as the favorite.
The building located on “Raiko Daskalov“ has been declared a cultural monument. This is one of the reasons why the municipality discussed the three ideas. NINKN will have the final say on the fate of the building.
Only one will be chosen from among the three proposals - the most rational for the city and feasible. According to the chairman of the Regional College of the Chamber of Architects, Chavdar Tenev, the best option is to have a museum in Plovdiv, which would show visitors not only the valuable exhibits of the ancient city, but also achievements in all fields, including art and music, as well as to present the vision for the future of Plovdiv.
Once it is clear what the cultural monument will be used for, a design assignment will be prepared. A project will also be prepared through a competition, or more precisely, through a public procurement, and once it is prepared, it will necessarily be agreed with the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage (NINKN), which usually takes time. By law, a procedure for public procurement and for the selection of a contractor for the restoration and construction works is required.
