German police shot dead a man today who went on a rampage with a stolen excavator and injured three police officers, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Police in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg described the incident on the social network “Ex“ as “alleged rampage“. No further details were initially known, but there was no danger to the public, the police spokeswoman added.
The 38-year-old German stole an excavator from a construction company in the town of Grunsfeld, south of Frankfurt, where he reportedly destroyed all the equipment.
He then drove the excavator to another town a few kilometers away, damaging several patrol cars and other vehicles along the way.
A policewoman injured in the incident was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
“The reckless driver was stopped by using a firearm in a car dealership,” the spokeswoman said.
The incident is under investigation, DPA reported.
