The shortage of qualified labor is felt in a number of sectors of the economy, but mostly in construction. For example, analysts predict that 18,000 workers will be needed in the industry in the next 3 to 5 years. Currently, 23,000 builders, 5,000 construction technicians, 3,000 construction assistants and 2,100 builder-installers are wanted.
For comparison, in 2023 the number of people employed in the construction sector was 131,000, which represents 5.9% of all employed in the Bulgarian economy. The average salary as of the middle of the current year is BGN 1,900. The data was presented by Petar Ganev from the Institute of Market Economy during a discussion "Finding and training personnel for the future of construction: Building tomorrow's world".
The topic of the development of technology and how it affects the workforce was also not overlooked. Undoubtedly, technologies and processes are subject to change, but people remain the main and driving factor.
