The years after the pandemic caused by the coronavirus have led not only to a rapid recovery of the aviation market, but also to its rapid expansion. Istanbul Airport has already taken over many of the flights from Frankfurt and London. A project for a new large airport in Poland was recently announced, which will absorb 30 billion USD.
Just a few days ago, information was released about the implementation of two new huge airport projects - in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, which will definitely reshape the aviation market. They will not only lead to passenger growth, but will also establish the two destinations as one of the largest international hubs.
Dubai Airport is already one of the busiest in the world. This is precisely the reason why the largest passenger terminal in the world was built there. Its scale can be judged by the value of the investment - 35 billion USD. It will have 400 gates and 5 runways. Thus, Dubai will be able to welcome 300 million passengers by 2030.
The other major project that will be implemented is worth 50 billion USD on the territory of the Saudi airport “King Salman“ in Riyadh. This will be the largest airport in terms of the number of passengers served by 2030, namely 185 million passengers per year.
These two projects alone represent 80% of investments in airport infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Among the smaller projects is a terminal with 28 gates at the Kuwait airport. This will increase the number of passengers passing through it to 50 million per year.
This year alone, Iraq will open 3 new airports, and Egypt is expanding its airport infrastructure to reach an annual capacity of 72.2 million passengers by the end of the current year.
The new projects will turn the Middle East and North Africa region into important transit points, taking part of this function away from Europe and Central Asia. And all this will happen very quickly - by 2030, analysts note.
