The specialized operation was carried out by officers of the GDBOP on June 30 in the territory of the village of Dobrina, municipality of Provadia. The police actions were carried out with the aim of identifying and detaining those complicit in the preparation and distribution of fake currency notes with a denomination of BGN 100. The action was taken after receiving signals from the beginning of 2024 until now about putting the banknotes in question into circulation, mainly in commercial establishments on the territory of Sofia, with over 150 cases registered.
This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In this regard, as a result of acquired information and conducted operative-search actions, a production base was established where the fake banknotes are produced. During emergency searches of a property in the village of Dobrina, 291 banknotes with a denomination of BGN 100 were found and seized; others -55 with a nominal value of BGN 20; multifunctional device - laser printer; laptop; flash memory with files stored on it - preprinting of various banknotes with denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 BGN, as well as 20 and 50 euros; foils, holograms, varnish, etc. materials and supplies.
One was detained on the spot, in the process of work, and subsequently a second person was found to be complicit in the process of preparing the banknotes. The two, one of whom is a minor, have been detained for up to 24 hours.
