District prosecutor Orlin Kuzdov announced that "the fake banknotes are of extremely high quality". According to the confessions of one of the arrested, they have so far created at least 2,000 pieces of 50 BGN.
In the case, employees of the Main Directorate "Combating Organized Crime" have been working for more than a year. One detained in custody created the fake banknotes, and the other, who is under house arrest, was rather responsible for their distribution.
The two men communicated only on the Internet. They also searched the global network for information about the materials and techniques needed to make the copies of the banknotes. They procured paper from China and Turkey, and the Turkish paper was intended for the packaging of duners, explained the deputy. the district attorney. “This is the first time we have had such success in Shumen. This is a serious attack against the entire financial system of Bulgaria and the European Union," district prosecutor Orlin Kuzdov told BNR.
The creator of the counterfeit notes can receive from 5 to 15 years in prison.
