Experts believe the wreckage is from a 10-seat Jet Commander. They were found fifty-three years after a private plane carrying five men disappeared on a snowy night in Vermont.
The plane was lost to radar shortly after taking off from Burlington Airport, Virginia for Providence, Rhode Island on January 27, 1971.
The search was fruitless, and the lake froze over four days after the plane disappeared. At least 17 other searches were conducted as underwater searcher Gary Kozak and his team found wreckage of a plane with the same custom paint scheme in the lake near where the radio control tower last tracked the plane before it went missing.
Sonar images were taken of the remains found at a depth of 60 meters of water. “With all this evidence, we are 99% absolutely sure which fatal flight it is,”, said Kozak.
