The observatory in Rojen welcomes visitors for free on the Open Day - 1
The open day at the Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory at the Institute of Astronomy of the BAS will traditionally be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Christian holiday of Pentecost, which this year is today, dariknews reported .bg.

On this day, the largest research astronomy center in South-Eastern Europe will open its doors with free entry for visitors. They will be able to familiarize themselves with the activity of the observatory by visiting the tower of the 2-meter telescope, the largest of the five observation facilities at NAO Rozhen.

On July 1, 2023, the newest, 1.5-meter telescope “AZ 1500“, built according to a project financed by the National Roadmap for Scientific Infrastructure 2020-2027, coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, was officially opened. Observations in the starry sky from it are carried out without the presence of an operator and in a fully automated mode.

The open day gives visitors the opportunity to meet the team of astronomers on duty, who will introduce them to the scientific tasks currently being worked on at NAO Rozhen, as well as the prospects for the observatory after the opening of the new telescope.

The event coincides with the temple holiday of the "Holy Trinity" chapel, erected by local residents in 1935, which is located right next to the entrance to the observation tower of the two-meter telescope.
