The attack, which happened last month and shocked the nation - left the nine-month-old boy with "severe burns" on the face and limbs.

Queensland Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 33-year-old man wanted for acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. According to the country's laws, if found guilty, the charge carries a life sentence.

The suspect flew out of Sydney Airport six days after the incident and just 12 hours before police were able to confirm his identity.

The injured baby was picnicking with his family in a suburban park on August 31 when witnesses say they were approached by a “strange man” who poured a bottle of liquid over the nappy. It suffered serious injuries that required multiple surgeries. The doctors predict many years to his full recovery.

The motive behind the incident is still unknown, says Inspector Paul Dalton, describing the case as one of the most complex he has ever handled.

He confirmed that police know which country the suspect fled to, as well as his name, but said releasing the information at this time could jeopardize the investigation.

The man is a “traveler” a worker who had entered Australia repeatedly since 2019 and had addresses in both New South Wales and Victoria. Also, the suspect was aware of police methodologies and conducted counter-investigative activities to avoid them.
