A year ago, in September 2023, Mira Dobreva experienced one of the hardest trials in her life you – after complications from peritonitis, she was placed in a medically induced coma for seven days. The operation, carried out urgently in "Pirogov", literally separated her from death by minutes.

But Mira managed to recover, and the recovery process took months. After coming out of the coma, Dobreva shared frankly that this period had changed her deeply. In interviews over the last year, she repeatedly tells how she has rethought her life.

She admits that she now feels more humble and much happier because she appreciates the small joys and understands how short and fragile life can be. "I realized that we shouldn't get angry over small things. Stress and negativity just aren't worth it, she shared.

"This could easily count as my first birthday. It will soon be one year since my new path.

I was given a chance to live more, but what did I learn in that time? I realized that what happened was a test, not a punishment, and my attitude towards myself changed, which changed my attitude towards others. I've learned to give what I get, no more. And that's fine with me.

I learned that the road is just a road and it's mine. I can walk on it, I can also bend, and the heartaches and discontents of the others are at their expense. I have learned many more things, others I have yet to understand, because my life chose to continue, and it is a school forever…“, wrote Dobreva.

In her recovery, Mira relied on her family and closest people. She received especially great support from her daughter Laura, who shared that while her mother was in a coma, she believed more strongly in prayers and hope.

After getting back on her feet, Mira Dobreva regained her physical activity and started hiking in the mountains again.

In an interview recently, she also opened up about her complicated relationship with her husband – directed by Zoro Tornev. Although officially still married, they do not live together and their relationship is far from a typical family one. According to rumors, the reason for the breakup is the TV presenter's frequent infidelities. Mira admits that this hurt her, as she dreamed of a normal family, but in the end she realizes that for two "abnormal people” like them this is not possible.

"I admire Zoro Tornev, although at the moment our relationship is not typically family, too complicated. I will always respect him as a man and preserve his dignity. There was great love between us, I wish it to everyone. There is no easy great love. The scariest thing is when you realize that you won't be able to have the family you imagined. I wanted to have a normal family, which is impossible for such abnormal people as Joro and me. You can't lock up one person within a family. It hurt me when I understood that I was not unique and special. That may not have been the case, but that was my feeling. The great sin of men is that they do not know how to express their feelings. They don't know how to speak“.

She also talks about difficult childhood memories of her father's alcoholism and how it has affected her life.

"It is very important to know the overwhelming power alcohol can have. It always goes hand in hand with aggression. Alcohol is bad – insults, hits. It is never only the sick person who gets sick from alcohol, but everyone around him. It is a disease that affects the whole family. My father had problems with alcohol. Alcoholics are very intelligent and sensual people. My father was a good man and I loved him no matter what. They cannot bear the world that is outside. The 90s were very difficult and many people turned to the cup.

"They didn't know how to deal with the new world," says Dobreva. This theme is an important part of her novel "Fireflies Behind Bars", which examines how alcohol addiction destroys not only the sufferer's life, but also those close to him, and takes all this as a lesson in what it should not be, writes "Retro" .
