Hollywood star Damien Lewis led a flock of sheep across a bridge crossing the River Thames in London, in honor of a medieval tradition.

The British actor, winner of the "Golden Globe" and "Emmy", wore her grandfather's woolen coat and used a gag to move the sheep to the other side across Sudark Bridge, the BBC reported, as quoted by NOVA.

The event honors the medieval tradition of anyone awarded the status of “Freeman of the City of London” being able to walk their sheep through the historic trade route for free.

Lewis, 53, described the hilarious scene as “eccentric”, adding: “I just played Lewis the shepherd and it was a lot of fun.

Lewis has strong links with London City – the capital's financial district – studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Several of his ancestors, as well as his brother, also served as Lord Mayors of London, who are elected annually to the borough's governing body.

The event is part of fundraising for the Woolmen Charity.
