A lion has bitten to death a zookeeper in the southwestern part of Nigeria, dariknews.bg reported.
The worker failed to lock his enclosure after feeding him, police said. The victim, a 35-year-old man, worked at the Presidential Library Wildlife Park owned by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Local police spokesman Omolola Odutola said “the lion inflicted serious fatal injuries on the man's neck”.
He said the animal was then shot to “release its hold on the handler”.
According to a statement by the Presidential Library “Olusegun Obasanjo” the zookeeper has taken some guests to see how the lion eats after hours.
