We are a strange tribe - the Balkans. Everyone is identical, somehow self-sufficient, but also great, of course. To hate, to expect, even if you want... And why. Because of the "century-old Macedonian identity", which is only now becoming known to the EU. North Macedonia both wants to be in the "European family", and hates its neighbors. Including us - the Bulgarians. So you hate your neighbors by presumption, and you expect them to say "yes" and become part of the "European family". It is clear that for Skopje, the next step towards EU membership is through constitutional changes to include the Bulgarian minority and regulate its status.
And this step would most likely have been taken a long time ago if there had been more desire in North Macedonia and the rulers had been more adequate towards Bulgaria. Instead, what we see is hate speech pouring out from everywhere.
Recently, Prime Minister Mickoski has not failed to show in any of his statements that he does not like Bulgaria, or rather, it would be more accurate to say that he hates it. And what does he propose against this hatred, how does he expect that by hating, the other side will accept him well and with open arms, to help him on the path to the “European family“.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov explained that our position is fully in line with the position expressed in the declaration of the National Assembly from May this year, which gives sufficient guarantees to the Republic of North Macedonia that Bulgaria will not set any different conditions from the “French extension“ and to turn the process into a bilateral one, because there is also an EU position.
For his part, Mickoski is trying to transfer this problem to the European Union, describing it as bilateral because they were affected. Apparently, Mickoski has somehow forgotten the Prespa Agreement with Greece, when they changed the name of the country. This, because it comes from centuries-old Greece, whose centuries-old identity is not subject to dispute, was a difficult decision that hurt Macedonia's pride with the insertion of the word “northern“, but it was swallowed. But for the Bulgarians in the constitution… This pain seems to be inhumanly strong to swallow.
Soon in the parliament in Skopje, Mickoski again fanned the topic of “identity“ and threatened to work in such a way as to introduce the country into the EU with “Macedonian identity and language“, and not as “modern” Macedonians. And this in defiance of those – Bulgarians, who wanted to create – a –modern Macedonian identity and language”.
By the way, how centuries-old is the identity of North Macedonia“ If there is a people who knows this best, it is us – the Bulgarians. Somehow we have centuries of history. Does this help us today… That is another question. And the fact that we are talking about “centuries-old Macedonian identity“ today, is not laughed at in Greece, somehow in a Byzantine way. And Athens should vote when the time comes for Skopje to become part of the “European family“. And then…
Skopje - to hate, to expect, even if you want
