The new engine intended for the successor to the Chiron will again be internal combustion and with the familiar not 16 cylinders. The brand's next hypercar will arrive in June, with power boosted by electric motors instead of superchargers. Now, new details have emerged about the sixteen-cylinder monster.
Bugatti-Rimac CEO Matteo Rimac shared some preliminary details at the Future of the Car Summit in London. The 36-year-old engineer and entrepreneur said the new 16-cylinder engine will not have a turbocharger at all. This is also the most significant difference between the Chiron and the Veyron. as we know these cars use four turbines.
The founder and CEO of Rimac Group, which owns 55% of Bugatti Rimac, said the new engine will be one meter long, making it longer than the original W16. The latter will leave the model range when production of the Mistral roadster and the track-ready Bolide ends. It has already been confirmed that the new engine will be a hybrid.
German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims the new V16 has a mammoth 8.3 liter displacement and was co-developed with Cosworth. It spins up to 9,000 rpm and works in conjunction with three electric motors. Thus, the system power of the power tract can reach 1,800 horsepower. The internal combustion engine alone is also said to produce approximately 1,000 hp
Two electric motors will drive the front wheels, and the third - the rear axle. The latter is built into an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With the DCT engaged, the length of the engine and transmission is 78.7 inches, or almost two meters. If German media reports are to be believed, Bugatti engineers have installed a 24.8kWh battery, sufficient for 60 kilometers of electric range.
AMS confirms that the successor to the Bugatti Chiron accelerates to a hundred in about two seconds and to 200 in less than five. From 0 to 300 km/h the time is less than ten seconds and the 0-400 km/h exercise can be completed in less than 25 seconds. The maximum speed will be electronically limited to 445 km/h.
Only 250 cars are expected to be produced. Remember that the Veyron was limited to 450 units, while the Chiron was produced in an amount of 500 copies. Although the reveal is next month, customer deliveries apparently won't start until 2026. The price will be at least 3.6 million euros.
