Fully automated dump trucks will be able to perform work without the participation of drivers in large quarries. The company states that this dump truck has been under development for 10 years.
It will be in the 40- or 50-ton segment and have a five-seater platform. This is reported by the publication Automotive purchasing and supply chain. Control of these monsters relies only on advanced autopilot.
The dump truck will move autonomously along preset routes. Its management will be connected to the advanced system, which will also be able to be commanded remotely.
Despite this innovative control and computerization scheme, all vehicles will have cabins equipped for manual control as well. A person will be able to override the autopilot in case of an accident or when driving on public roads.
The first sales market for the presented trucks will be Australia. Customers can now place orders there, hoping to receive an automated dump truck in 2026. In a few more years, they will transfer the premiere to South America.
There is still no information about the start of sales in Europe. However, it could happen as Norway already claims automated dump trucks and definitely has an affinity for the Scania brand.
