The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said it had ordered a Czech diplomat to leave the country and summoned a senior Polish diplomat for a meeting after both countries expelled Belarusian diplomatic staff, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Earlier this month, the Czech Republic and Poland expelled Belarusian diplomats over spying allegations. Warsaw also arrested a person outside diplomatic circles on suspicion of spying for Minsk.
Western countries have imposed sanctions on Belarus, a close ally of Russia in its war in Ukraine, after the suppression of protests following the 2020 election won by longtime leader Alexander Lukashenko – a victory unrecognized by the opposition and most Western capitals.
In a statement, the Ministry said the expulsion was “the result of years of prejudice against Belarus on the part of the Czech authorities“.
