The European Commission will propose a plan to increase duties on Russian oil imports. This was announced by the EC's deputy chief spokesman Olof Gill, News.bg reports.
The reason is that this type of restriction is not included in the 19th sanctions package against Russia.
"The European Commission will present further details on a plan to increase import duties on Russian oil in due course," the spokesman specified.
Yesterday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU intends to "impose duties on oil supplies" that are still entering the bloc. She added that by banning the import of Russian liquefied natural gas into European markets and focusing on refineries, oil traders and refineries in third countries, Europe will completely abandon Russian fossil fuels by 2027.
