The Israeli Civilian Appointments Committee has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to appoint General David Zinni as director of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
The news was announced by the prime minister's office and confirmed by AFP. The decision to appoint Netanyahu was made in May of this year, but was initially deemed "illegal" by the country's attorney general's office.
Ultimately, the committee, which has the authority to make final decisions on such appointments, changed its mind and approved Zinni's candidacy. The government officially announced the appointment.
