The administration of US President Donald Trump is deporting about 100 Iranians from the country, Reuters and the “New York Times“ reported, citing US officials, BTA reported.
The Iranians were put on a plane chartered by US authorities, which took off from the US state of Louisiana yesterday evening local time. It will arrive in Iran later today, with its route expected to pass through Qatar.
Details about the Iranians who were deported were not reported. It is not specified what their motives were for wanting to immigrate to the US.
So far, the Trump administration has not commented on the information of the two media outlets. Shortly after, however, Tehran announced that the United States was expelling 120 Iranians from the country this week as part of President Trump's anti-immigrant policy, Agence France-Presse reported.
“120 people are to be expelled and returned to the country in the next two days,“ said Hossein Noushabadi, a representative of the consular affairs department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. “The American immigration authorities have decided to expel about 400 Iranians who are currently in the United States, most of whom entered there illegally,“ he added.
