The Ministry of Interior of the transitional government of Syria has not recorded any irregularities during the voting for the People's Council (unicameral parliament), which is being held in most provinces of the Arab Republic. A source from the ministry told Al-Hadath TV.
According to the source, “no irregularities were observed during the voting“. The official statement of the Ministry of Interior emphasizes that its units “have implemented the approved plan to ensure the security of polling stations, organize the movement of citizens and ensure a continuous flow of transport, allowing voters to easily and safely reach their ballot boxes“.
In turn, the chairman of the Supreme Election Committee of the People's Council, Mohammed al-Ahmed, confirmed that “the electoral process is proceeding smoothly“.
On Sunday at 9:00 a.m. local time, polling stations opened for members of the electoral colleges in 11 of Syria's 14 governorates. In several of them, the voting process has ended and counting has begun, while others, including the National Library in Damascus, have extended their working hours.
1,578 candidates are running for parliamentary seats, 14% of whom are women. In total, approximately 6,000 members of the electoral college are expected to vote. They will elect 140 of the 210 members of the supreme legislative body, while the remaining 70 will be appointed by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The final results are expected to be announced at a press conference early next week.
