Odessa and the area around it were attacked for an hour by nearly 20 drones from the Black Sea, local channels of the Telegram application reported, BTA reported.
As a result of the massive shelling, part of the Ukrainian Black Sea city is without electricity, local channels also reported. The sirens were activated at 00:30, and the alarm lasted until 01:30.
At the moment, an alarm has been declared again due to a drone circling over the city.
The regional authorities are calling on residents to hide in bomb shelters.
The Bulgarians in the Odessa region number over 150,000 people and are the third largest according to the latest official census in Ukraine. About 50,000 to 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odessa itself. The largest Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolgrad, Izmail and Belgorod-Dniester regions.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised to increase pressure on Moscow. He did so in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, DPA reported.
"The Chancellor promised (to Zelensky) that Germany would continue its support and expand cooperation in the defense industry," said government spokesman Stefan Cornelius.
Germany, together with its Western partners, will also increase pressure on Moscow, the official added.
In an article in Ex, Zelensky thanked Merz for his support. "Today, Russia carried out a terrorist attack on Ukraine, targeting our energy sector and using hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles."
"Germany has made a significant contribution to the protection of our people," he continued. "We greatly appreciate Germany's solidarity and support," the Ukrainian president wrote.
