The Norwegian Nobel Institute, which assists the Norwegian Nobel Committee in determining the Nobel Peace Prize laureates, will investigate whether there was a leak of information about this year's winner, Agence France-Presse reported, citing Norwegian media, BTA reports.
Yesterday, the prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who was not considered a favorite among experts or the media.
On Thursday night, just a few hours before the announcement of the laureate, Machado's odds jumped by 3.75% to nearly 73% on the Polymarket prediction platform.
Jørgen Vatne Fridnes told the NTB news agency: “I don't think there has ever been a leak of laureate names in the entire history of the prize. I can't imagine something like this happening now.“
Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, added that a check would be carried out for any possible leaks just in case.
Until the laureate is announced, the name is known only to a limited number of people, as the peace prize is awarded by the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee.
