The cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has officially resigned on the eve of the parliamentary vote for a new prime minister scheduled for Tuesday, the Kyodo news agency reported, reports News.bg.
“The Ishiba government is resigning before the parliamentary vote to elect the next prime minister of Japan“, the statement said.
On Tuesday, the Japanese parliament begins an extraordinary session, during which members of parliament will vote for the new government leader. The vote is expected to be held in the second half of the day.
Earlier, the agency reported that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the opposition “Japan Innovation Party“ have reached a cooperation agreement. This significantly increases the chances of LDP leader Sanae Takaichi being elected prime minister.
If this happens, Takaichi will make history as the first woman to hold the office of prime minister of Japan.
