Explosions rocked areas around Sudan's capital a day after humanitarian truce - 1

Explosions rocked areas around the Sudanese capital Khartoum, controlled by the army, witnesses told AFP - just a day after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced they were accepting a humanitarian ceasefire, BTA reports.

Residents of Omdurman said the blasts occurred near a military base and a power plant, causing power outages. Meanwhile, witnesses in Atbara, about 300 kilometers to the north, reported that air defenses shot down several drones that appeared over the city.

Following the capture of Fasher in western Sudan on October 26, the SDF appears to be focusing its offensive on the Kordofan regions and Khartoum. Although the capital has remained relatively calm since March, drone attacks on military and civilian targets have continued.

Residents of Omdurman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described nighttime strikes: a noise from air defenses at around 2:00 a.m., followed by explosions near the Wadi Sayidna base, and an explosion near a power plant at around 4:00 a.m. In Atbara, witnesses reported up to ten drones shot down one after another by air defenses, after which fires broke out in the eastern part of the city.

There have been no reports of casualties so far, and neither the army nor the SDF have commented on the incidents.

The paramilitary forces, which have been waging war against the Sudanese army since April 2023, said yesterday that they had accepted a humanitarian ceasefire proposal proposed by Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, AFP reported.
