Every fifth Croatian has an additional job due to rising living costs, according to a study cited by the Croatian news agency HINA, BTA reported.
The most common second job is in the service sector, passenger transport, cleaning and various types of temporary employment.
The survey, conducted among 690 respondents by the online service “My Salary“ (Mojaplaca), part of the company “Alma Career Croatia“ (Alma Career Croatia), shows that 21 percent of respondents have a second job mainly to supplement household income. Many respondents indicated that one salary is no longer enough to cover housing, food and fuel costs, and some are even looking for a third source of income.
Another 35 percent of respondents are considering finding an additional job, mostly because they are financially dissatisfied or want a change, while 16 percent say they are not interested in a second job because they earn enough or lack time. About 28 percent of respondents are unemployed.
The survey report notes that the average net monthly salary in Croatia in the third quarter of this year was 1,539 euros, although many believe that the minimum wage should be around 2,000 euros to ensure a normal standard of living.
