Swiss authorities convinced the United States to reduce trade tariffs by offering gifts to US President Donald Trump, Axios reported, citing its sources.
“It was hard to beat Apple, but the Swiss did it“, the website quoted a US presidential administration official as saying.
It is noted that Switzerland sent a delegation of industrialists to the United States with gifts such as a Rolex watch and a one-kilogram gold bar worth approximately $130,000. According to Axios sources in the White House, Trump accepted these gifts on behalf of his presidential library, making them legal donations.
On August 7, Tim Cook, the CEO of the American technology giant Apple, presented Trump with a glass disc engraved with the American leader's name, the company's logo, the Apple CEO's signature and an inscription indicating that the souvenir was made in the United States. The disc is mounted on a stand made, according to Cook, of 24-karat gold.
Earlier, the Swiss government announced a reduction in US tariffs on goods made in Switzerland from 39% to 15%. “Switzerland and the United States have successfully reached a solution: US tariffs will be reduced to 15%. We thank President Trump for his constructive engagement“, the article in X.com notes.
