In a video address to his compatriots, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he would work quickly and constructively with the US on the peace plan, but added that he would not betray his country's national interests, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Zelensky also called on Ukrainians to remain united, as he put it, "in one of the most difficult moments in the country's history". He added that he expects more political tension in the coming week.
The Ukrainian leader announced that he would present alternatives to the US plan to end the war in Ukraine, Agence France-Presse adds.
Zelensky also said that Ukraine could be faced with a very difficult choice – to lose his dignity or risk losing a key partner, reported Agence France-Presse.
Earlier today, Zelensky discussed the American plan in a telephone conversation with the leaders of France, Britain and Germany, after which all participants in the conversation made brief comments.
According to Reuters and Agence France-Presse, citing sources in the Ukrainian presidency, Zelensky also spoke by phone today with US Vice President J.D. Vance. Earlier today, "Axios" wrote that a similar conversation is planned, recalls Reuters.
